About the Author
Emily Cavalier (@ECava) is the founder of Mouth of the Border, a site for lovers of ethnic food and cocktails. She's also the hostess, chef and founder of Midnight Brunch supper club, a pop-up dining experience. Yes, it really happens at midnight.
Emily connects food lovers and cool businesses to new audiences using food and cocktails as well as art and local culture. Her company does that in person via custom walking tours, pop up dining experiences and event consulting as well as online via social media strategy and execution.
When not busy stuffing her face, Emily's passion is writing. She's scrawled, explored, written and produced everywhere from poetry periodicals as a youngster to newspaper, magazine and broadcast outlets as a former journalist.
She was born in Boston, Mass. and was raised in Florida and New Hampshire. Emily received a bachelor's degree in English and Journalism from the University of New Hampshire, and went on to receive a master's degree in broadcast journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
Her broadcast studies took her on stints from Chicago to Washington, D.C. to Paris, finally concluding with a three-month assignment reporting and producing a daily, English-language newscast on the island of Aruba. They asked her to stay, and some days she wonders why she didn't.
In her free time, Emily dances, writes, throws things in pans in kitchens and takes pictures. Evidence of all of this can also be found on her personal blog EmilyCavalier.com. She speaks French, and wishes she also spoke Spanish. She loves the New England Patriots and listening to reggae, and has at times thought of pursuing careers as a bellydancer and perfumer.
The one thing you cannot make her eat, ever, is scrambled eggs with ketchup.
