Emily Cavalier is a freelance food writer. She also works full-time as a business development executive in the event and media industry, a position she has held since moving to Brooklyn in December 2006.
When not busy stuffing her face, Emily’s passion is writing. She’s scrawled, explored, written and produced from an early age everywhere from poetry periodicals in high school to reporting for newspaper, magazine and broadcast outlets as a former journalist.
As a reporter with The Telegraph (Nashua, NH), one of her readers’ and editors’ best-loved stories was her feature on the New England tradition of ordering Chinese food on New Year’s Eve.
She was born in Boston, Mass. and was raised in Florida and New Hampshire. She is a ‘95 St. Paul’s School ASP alum and a ‘99 Ronald E. McNair Scholar. Emily received a bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism from the University of New Hampshire, and went on to receive a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
Her broadcast studies took her on stints from Chicago to Washington, D.C. to Paris, finally concluding with a three-month assignment reporting and producing a daily, English-language newscast on the island of Aruba. They asked her to stay, and some days she wonders why she didn’t.
In her free time, Emily dances, writes, throws things in pans in kitchens and takes pictures. Evidence of all of this can also be found at EmilyCavalier.com. She speaks French, and wishes she also spoke Spanish. You can find her all over the web, playing with every social media platform that appeals to her. She loves the New England Patriots and listening to reggae, and has at times thought of pursuing careers as a bellydancer, perfumer and brand consultant.
The one thing you cannot make her eat, ever, is scrambled eggs with ketchup.
