Summer may be just about over, but that doesn't mean your outdoor funloving times have to end just yet. Tomorrow night a band I adore, TV on the Radio, is playing at the Williamsburg Waterfront Concert Series hosted by OSA (shows and tickets here
). The season ends with shows from Widespread Panic and Broken Social Scene.
I know you don't generally come to me (at least here) for music recs, but you could. You know, if you really wanted to. But there is a tie-in with eating or drinking here, so let me get to it.
The wines served at the Waterfront concerts are from Wine Australia
, and they're doing something pretty nifty with Foursquare
. If you check in at a participating local wine store and buy a bottle of one of the Wine Australia wines, you can get a gift pack (pictured) with a wine glass and corkscrew.
Fun fact: Before June of this year, I hadn't had an Australian wine on purpose since I was 21. The first bottle of wine I purchased when I was of age was an Australian red and it was just awful. I knew nothing about wine then and know marginally more now, but I know better than to judge an entire country's wine by a single (and probably very cheap, poorly produced) bottle.
To rectify matters, Wine Australia sent me a few wines to check out earlier this summer and, if you need a recommendation, I'm especially taken with their Earthworks Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon
. I'm bummed I can't make the show tomorrow night (since it's Fashion's Night Out
). If you wind up catching the show or one of the remaining bands, I'd recommend trying out a glass of the Cab.
You can buy Wine Australia wines and get a gift pack as long as supplies last at the following Brooklyn wine shops: Red, White and Green, Smith and Vine, UVA Wines, Trojanowski Wine & Spirits, Prospect Wine Shop, Red, White and Bubbly, Juice Box and Heights Chateau. Wine Australia also has their Waterfront concert wines stocked at Astor Wine & Spirits in Manhattan.

Not in NYC? Check out Lot18
or Gilt Taste
for cool ways to explore and buy new wines by the bottle. A UPS man showed up on my doorstep today with a wine delivery and, even though booze shows up at my
home office weekly, it never gets old.
