At Central Grocery, New Orleans.[/caption] I'm down in New Orleans for Tales of the Cocktail, so I'm feeling really spoiled by the great local food and amazing access we have to the world's best bartenders and cocktails. So far, I've had charbroiled oysters at Acme Oyster House, a muffaletta sandwich at Central Grocery, the home of this iconic meal and one of the country's oldest delis. I'm about to get us some shrimp and grits at The Old Coffee Pot, a NOLA institution. Yes, I do have to work out in the hotel gym every day to keep my metabolism from completely shutting down. Last night, I attended shindigs hosted by Grey Goose vodka as well as a party where I almost got kicked out for not wearing pants. To be fair, it was the Fancypants party, thrown by Social Mixology with great cocktails made with Dos Maderas rum, but still! It featured four different bars with tons of fresh ingredients ranging from pineapples to red bell peppers and bundles of fresh herbs. A great reminder that, while I've gotten away from vodka in past years, it is truly one of the easiest platforms to work with in terms of mixing and matching flavor profiles in cocktails. We ended the night seeing the amazing brass funk band, Rebirth, with tons of friends in town for Tales over at The Maple Leaf. Anyways, I'm getting real hungry and have a packed day ahead with the official kickoff of Tales this afternoon and this evening's festivities. (See some of my Tales schedule on my personal blog). Expect some great stories this month about who I met and what I ate and drank!
